Although I often heard of Express Enrollment events throughout Ivy Tech, I did not attend an event prior to becoming an Ivy Tech student. Whether it was me being stubborn, or not knowing the benefits of the event, it seemed easier to just figure it out on my own.

As an intern for Ivy Tech, I have learned of the benefits of attending one of these events, and I regret not attending one. So I decided to write this blog to let you know, my three reasons I wish I would have gone to an Express Enrollment Day.

To help find the most efficient degree path for you!

Individuals are constantly faced with time restraints and deadlines. As for me, the enrollment process made me feel overwhelmed and clueless. I always felt pressured to find the classes that best fit my schedule, and more importantly my degree path.

With graduation just around the corner, I have a lot of regrets regarding my degree path.

Without knowledge of the difficulty of the classes I was taking, I jumped head first into a jam-packed-schedule. I will be honest, I was never so stressed in my life. Finding a balanced schedule is so important, and there many people who could’ve helped me find that degree path for me if I would’ve attended one of Ivy Tech’s enrollment events. If only I knew what I knew now, I would’ve attended an Express Enrollment event to get help mapping out my schedule.

No Fuss Enrollment process

Once completing my associate’s degree, I am transferring to a four-year university to continue my education. When I went for the basic enrollment “orientation” at said university, I was so overwhelmed. Not only did it last all day, but all the enrollment “tasks” where to be completed on various days following the orientation. Very few people knew how to help me, and I began to get frustrated.

However, Ivy Tech has been easy from the beginning. There are advisors ready to assist you, and many people who are ready to help you get where you want to be. At Express Enrollment day, you are able to talk to all these individuals and receive help from them to get you through the enrollment process.

Meet One-On-One with an Advisor

Having a knowledgeable advisor is vital to your success as a student. At Express Enrollment day, you have the opportunity to meet with an advisor.

I can’t stress enough how vital my advisor has been to my degree success. Not only does she help me whenever I have an issue, but also checks up with me around midterms to make sure all of my classes are going well. She has been supportive when I have struggled with classes, and encouraged me to continue on. The only regret that I have regarding my advisor is that I wish I met her sooner. If I would’ve attended an Express Enrollment event prior to beginning at Ivy Tech, I may have been able to.

If I would’ve attended these events when I first began my journey towards my degree, I would’ve been able to find an efficient degree path that worked for me, had a no-fuss enrollment process, and met my advisor sooner than I did.
